2010 Salisbury Chess Championship

Good morning to all:

Please join me in extending congratulations to Chris O’Connell for winning the 2010 Salisbury Club Championship with a score of 5 out of 6 (4 wins, 2 draws). Ken Milutin and Charlie Vaughn finished tied for 2nd/3rd with 4 out of 6 (Ken 3 wins, 1 loss, 2 draws, Charlie 4 wins and 2 losses). There were some great games and the entire 6 round contest was greatly contested with several upsets and a number of very good games.

Let’s also congratulate Bill Wong on his recent victory in the Milford Club Championship: by the way, Bill also scored a very respectable 3.5 in the Salisbury Club Championship…… Bill has been playing some great chess since becoming active again. CONGRATS TO BOTH CHRIS and BILL!

Some good news! The Salisbury Chess Club re-opens this Wednesday, November 3rd at the same location. The Diner has been remodeled, has some new menu items and the name has changed to: The South End Grill (I believe). The club times are 5:30PM – 10:00PM (yes, the hours have increased slightly). I cannot express to all the importance of patronizing the Diner……. They have asked that we try to by an entrée while we are there or at least an appetizer or dessert. Even though they offer free refills on sodas and coffee, too many of us take advantage of that by only buying the soda or coffee….they lose money when that happens and for us to continue to meet there, we need for all us to step up and help them help us, by taking care of the Diner and the wait staff. Remember, a tip should not be solely based on a check amount……a tip also is a reflection of the service and in our case, the convenience of meeting at the Diner. Please keep all of this in mind.

Starting 1/1/2011, The Salisbury Chess Club is going to go back to mandatory yearly dues (a very modest amount still to be determined). This will help us maintain a small balance in our club treasury and help maintain some order and foundation for the club.

Thanks to all….and again I wanted to thank all of you who participated in the Salisbury Chess Club and a special thank you to my friend Dean Miller who is assisting me with rating the tourney with the USCF.
