Chessgames.com

Chessgames.com has a large database of games for review and study. My favorite feature is "Guess The Move". The object is to guess the move made by a grandmaster chess player and earn points to make par. Sometimes a good move is given credit if it is not the same exact move. Occasionally, a bad move is penalized or no credit given. This is good training for beginners to experts. Bruce Pandolfini has a similar article in Chess Life Magazine but the major difference with Chessgame.com is that you may choose the type of opening, colors, theme or other parameters that you want to study such as endgame. The games are also more mature in nature. In other words the games you review are not one sided affairs where white has an overwhelming dominate attack as in Pandolfini's article. I think most people at the club level will enjoy this web site. Most will agree that the database will help with the opening moves that are made. The only thing is that annotation is not given or sparse throughtout. Explainations are key to understanding opening chess play and not just rote memory.
